As a parent you are probably feeling a mix of emotions - pride, relief, joy, and possibly a little sadness at the thought of how things are going to change. Your child is probably secretlyGraduation Caps feeling all those things as well.

Planning a Graduation Party is a great way to publicly acknowledge your pride and happiness over your child's accomplishments and focus a lot of positive energy into creating a fun and memorable event.

In planning the party, you really want to observe your child and reflect their style in the choices of decorations, activities and food. Above all - make the party hip and cool. (OK - those are our generation's words not theirs - but you know what I mean!) Create a happy, fun, hip, warm and inviting environment that all the graduates will want to hang out at.

Graduation Party guest lists vary greatly - so choose what works best for your family. Obviously your child will want to have their friends, and in addition you may want to include family, parents of grads, neighbors, etc. For this kind of mixed group, an Open House is a great option. If you have the backyard space - make sure and let the fun spill outdoors.

I've created two themed packages to fit today's unique, youthful personalities and party needs: Flower Power and Chill Out. Take a look at those to the right. You can adjust the quantities to fit your needs and leave off items you don't need or may already have.

Remember to review all the party details with your grad, but there is so much going on at this time in a young person's life, plan on putting in the hard work yourself or hiring help if appropriate.

Rental companies come in very handy for parties like these. They can provide backyard tents (a great option so you don't have to sweat the weather), and items such as additional tables and chairs.

We're talking a party for young people - so make sure and have the food and drinks (non-alcoholic for underage kids) flowing. If you haven't tried Appetizers to Go (see ad on right side of link) it is a great resource for yummy hors d'oeuvres.

Barbecued ChickenMake sure and choose themed meals that will appeal to all ages. Mexican, barbecue (chicken, burgers, steaks, etc.), seafood are all great choices. Checkout some of the ideas at Food Network.Candy

For dessert - you can follow the traditional cake route or try something new like a Candy Buffet. I've created a Candy Buffet Package to the right. They are as much fun to look at as to enjoy! They really bring out the kid in all of us. Set up variety of glass jars. Fill with an assortment of candy. Make sure and have scoops and bags available to fill up with candy. Makes a fun treat during the party and as a take home gift.

Instant photos provide immediate fun to the party! Checkout the Instant Photo Fun Package to the right. The kids (and adults) will have fun snapping photos and displaying them on the magnetic board. They make a great take home gift as well. Try using the Write On Polaroid fun for added fun!
